EVERYONE NEEDS A HOME THAT’S IN REACH OF THEIR BUDGET.

I’ve heard from thousands of Boiseans about the challenges they face, particularly around housing and affordability. Since day one, my team and I have been working to ensure that a good place to live stays in reach for more Boiseans. In just three years, we’ve:

  • Helped foster 1,200 homes that fit Boise budgets

  • Directed our urban renewal agency to invest in affordable housing for the first time

  • Prevented eviction for 5,000 households with direct investment of ARPA funding

  • Piloted innovative solutions like the Land Bank and Housing Bonus Ordinance to incentivize the development of workforce housing along key transit corridors.

  • Moved 125 families out of homelessness and into permanent housing

  • In cooperation with Boise City Council, added essential protections for renters (read about them here)

EVERYONE NEEDS OPEN SPACE AND CLEAN AIR, NO MATTER THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD.

Since leading the original grassroots campaign to preserve and protect our Foothills, I’ve dedicated my service to the preservation of our open spaces and expansion of our parks. As mayor, I have continued that dedication, seeking to bring access to every part of Boise. That’s why we:

  • Invested in even more open space, adding 357 additional acres (a 7.14% increase in just three years!)

  • Set the goal that every person in Boise live just 10 minute walk to a park

  • Launched the Boise Pathways Plan, working to safely connect every corner of our city with 120 miles of dedicated bike and pedestrian pathways building on the success of the Boise Greenbelt

  • Restored and expanded Boise’s tree canopy to clean our air and shade our neighborhoods (13,757 trees planted so far!)

EVERYONE NEEDS A GOOD JOB THAT PAYS A LIVING WAGE.

A city can only thrive when there are plenty of jobs - across all kinds of sectors - that will pay a living wage, today and for years to come. I’ve been proud to have:

  • Helped secure a once-in-generation investment from Micron, whose leading-edge memory manufacturing facility represents a $15 billion dollar investment and thousands of new jobs in Boise over the next 20 years

  • Kept our small, local businesses thriving with millions in direct grants to owners during and after the pandemic

  • Increased access to quality, affordable child care for more working parents through direct grants to 1,200+ Boise-based child care workers and by cutting red tape during the licensing process

  • Attracted new start-ups and light manufacturing companies to Boise around shared climate values and climate innovation

EVERYONE DESERVES TO FEEL SAFE IN BOISE.

And lastly, none of this really matters if our city isn’t safe. Continued investments in public safety have resulted in year-over-year declines in Boise’s crime rates, defying regional trends in other cities. My administration has:

  • Doubled the number of behavioral health units dedicated to responding to mental health issues humanely and with better outcomes

  • Championed investments in community policing and community liaison officers, helping our police force maintain closer, more personal ties to the people who live in our neighborhoods

  • Budgeted for a long-needed new fire station in Northwest Boise and a modern, reimagined fire station downtown with community gathering spaces and affordable housing
